Our Office Home

Our Hong Kong office is in the Asian Area Administration Building, 118 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai. It is a 12 story building. The ground floor is reception area and includes a baptismal font. The first floor is where the chapel for our branch meets. There are also chapels on the 2nd and 6th floors. Floors 1-7 also have classrooms, family history, offices for branch president and counselor for the weekday branch etc. Floors 8-10 are for the Asian Area Presidency and staff. Our office is on the 8th floor with the Asian Area Welfare Manager (our boss), the other Asian Area Welfare Specialists, Elder and Sister Woolsey, the Asian Area Medical Doctor and his wife, Elder and Sister Bench, and the Asian Area Employment Resource Specialists, Elder and Sister Gibbons. Our great secretary is Jaymi. The above takes up one-half of the floor. Finance is in the other half. Floors 11-12 are living quarters for the Asian Area Presidency. We only go to those floors when we are invited such as our welcoming dinner in Elder Watson's apartment on February 24. There will be one other incoming couple, Elder and Sister Erikson (family history) and an outgoing couple, Elder and Sister Newell (legal). We are usually in the office 8:30 to 5:00 when we are in town

Hong Kong Temple Visit

The Hong Kong Temple is in Kowloon about 15-25 minutes by bus from our apartment. We were set apart as ordinance workers today and they put us right to work. Today was a special day to accommodate the Philippine sisters who normally work each day. The weather turned warm with the sun out. The picture was taken across the street from the temple.

Happy Chinese New Year

Last night the fireworks display over the Hong Kong harbor were impressive. We walked from our apartment to the harbor which was only about 1/2 mile. Thousands of residents packed the harbor area to see several boats in the bay shoot off 25 minutes of fireworks. They started at 8:00 p.m. The smoke dimmed some of the color, but they were still spectacular. Several tall buildings in the area were decorated with lights. They put them up with cranes. We did not go to the parade across the bay this year, but will try to go next year when we feel more at home. I'll insert a few pictures so you can catch the spirit of the night.

Dragon Fruit- A new cuisine

We shopped at the outdoor market this week. Lots of shops selling fruit, meat, clothes, toys. One of the strangest was dragon fruit. The attached pictures show what it looks like whole, peeled. and cut in two. The fruit is sweet, with the seeds giving it a crunchy taste. We actually like it quite well.

Some photos of the streets of Hong Kong and KFC store

We purchased a new camera on Saturday, and took a few pictures of the transportation vehicles in this city. We also found a KFC and had to take a picture showing something that looks like home. We will gradually understand hows to use the blog more and keep adding to it for the family.

The first week in Hong Kong

We arrived in Hong Kong China on Sunday, January 18. We will be housed in the Harmony House Apartments, 13H, in Wan Chai, Hong Kong. Our office address is 118 Glousester Rd., 8th floor. This is the Asia Area Office of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Chinese New Year is being celebrated January 26-28. Everyone visits family and friends. We are getting accustomed to the crowded streets, many buses, ling lings and taxis. It is a beautiful city. 2009 is the year of the ox. This golden bench is part of the decorations at Times Square in Wan Chai, a 13 story modern shopping mall.
