Bamboo Scaffolding

They use bamboo scaffolding to tear down buildings, construct buildings, wash windows, repair buildings etc. We took a few pictures to show you how it looks.

Buying trip to Stanley

On the south end of Hong Kong Island is the town of Stanley. It looks out over the China Sea. In the center of the town is the famous Stanley Market. Scores of booths, mostly under cover, with all kinds of clothing, jewelry, ceramics, shoes you can imagine. They cater to American sizes, which we definintely need. There are some great bargains. Jay was able to find some casual clothes to wear which he will need as he visits water projects on our tours. Jena Vee found some lovely blouses and skirts. The bus ride to Stanley takes about 30 minutes, goes through a mountain tunnel and then winds through mountainous terrain overlooking apartments and harbor below. We were on the top of a two decked bus so had a great view. Elder and Sister Woolsey were our tour guides on February 25.

Views of Hong Kong from the 47th Floor

This building under construction is in Kowloon and will be the tallest in Hong Kong when it is finished. There is a crane on top of it.

Our Office building looks small from the 47th floor

Across the street from our office is a 72 floor office building. On the 47th floor they have an open observatory that permits viewing the main Hong Kong business area and the northern Kowloon section of Hong Kong. Very impressive. This large art piece greets us on the first floor. Our 12 story office building (pink structure) looks rather small from this vantage point. Most of our area is built on reclaimed land from the harbor. In one picture you can see a large habor area currently being filled in to provide space for more buildings. Remember, these structures are all erected with a bamboo lattice framework surrounding the constructed buildings. Amazing!!

Dinner with the Area Presidency

On February 24, we had a delicious dinner served by the Area Presidency in one of their apartments in our building. There was another new couple invited and a couple returning home. It was a delightful evening. The Presidency are all Seventies and thus General Authorities. They have resonsibility for 3.2 billion of the world's population as far as our Church is concerned.

The makings of a dragon

This is a group of dragon dancers preparing to put on their dragon costume to entertain visitors on the streets. We are on a walkway above them. We then go down and join them.

Hong Kong Harbor and Skyline

We had a blog post ready last week, but somehow lost it. I was trying to move pictures around, and still had touble putting them where I wanted them. So, today I won't worry where they go. I am just going to put them on the blog. The Hong Kong harbor is only a few blocks from our office, but we haven't taken a trip in the daytime to it until Saturday. (We had gone at night for the fireworks). It was a beautiful day. Temperature about 70 degrees. Many visitors had the same idea. I'll show a few pictures of the harbor, the ferry that crosses to Kowloon, other boats, and pictures from the harbor of the Hong Kong skyline.

When completed, this building will be the tallest in Hong Kong. It is on the Kowloon side.












A favorite spot along the water to drop in a fishing line. Not sure what they catch.














Many boats ply these waters. They come in all shapes and sizes. Ferries, fishing vessels, sight-seeing boats etc.

The Star Ferry goes between Wan Chai and central on Hong Kong Island to Kowloon. No fare for seniors. The alternate way is to go under the harbor either by bus or train.
