The Hong Kong Flower Show is a major event organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to promote horticulture and the awareness of greening. Every year, it provides a good opportunity for hundreds of thousands of local citizens and horticulture lovers all over the world to appreciate the beauty of flowers and share their experiences in the cultivation of flowers. Hong kong Flower Show 2010 will be held from 19 to 28 March 2010 at Victoria Park in Causeway Bay. Featuring "Cineraria" as its theme flower, the event will showcase this exquisite plant and a rich profusion of exquisite potted plants, beautiful floral arrangements and gorgeous landscape displays by organizations from local, the Mainland and overseas. There will also be commercial stalls selling flowers and other horticultural products.
We did not hear about the show last year, so we wanted to see it this year. We went early in a morning to avoid the crowds. We took a new couple missionary with us, Elder and Sister Lee from Perry, Utah. They replaced Elder and Sister Gibbons in Employment Resources. We were pleasantly surprised with the creativity of the various displays. The show was held in Victoria Park a the same place the New Years Fair was held. (See earlier blog). I hope you enjoy the pictures. Some of the displays were animated. See the crab below.
Sister Lee joins us on our trip to Victoria Park. We walked over (about 15 minutes) and took the "ding ding" back to work. We were there at 9 a.m., just as it opened for the day. The horse and carriage are all flowers!!
I don't know the names of the flowers, but they were really beautiful. (Maybe they are the theme plant, Cineraria.) ll the flowers in beds were brought in pots and placed on an asphalt large play area. Everything was created just for the show. It will revert to a playground next week.
Even a flower dragon with the big eyes and head.
Some organizations put up instructive booths. This discussed the role of insects in gardening.
An exhibit from Thailand.
Even a pearl in this oyster.
You can see that the Park is in the middle of a great commercial city. The seahorse overlooks the flowers.
I had to get one picture of me in this blog. Sister Smith also had her camera today.
Cabbages realy growing.
A beautiful tunnel, probably the theme flower.
